I've been looking for a while for a low-tech and yet geeky way to map and plan my way through CV ...
After some thinking, I remembered a folding design I had seen some time ago, which could help me create a compact version of what I needed.
After several versions of the "Infinite map", which helped me refine the visuals and organize the contents, I came up with a final version, which I assembled today.
This design is rather simple: everything fits on a single sheet of paper.
Some preliminary cutting is required, along the "green lines"
Gluing the two main map sheets is a simple step.
Then, it's time to cut along the red lines, ending up with four smaller rectangles.
Folding along the blue lines for all four rectangles will help the map's mechanism
The tricky part: assembling the map
- Place the "Thursday" and "Friday" rectangles next to another, they should be well aligned
- Apply glue on the four A, B, C, D squares
- Glue the remaining two rectangles on the ones with glue, making sure all A, B, C, D squares are glued together (A on A, B on B, etc ...)
- This gluing should be done in one step
- Important note: some trimming is necessary after the map is dry enough to be manipulated.
Cut excess paper along the borders of the map a little at the time
After a few minutes, here is the final result
This is the main hall floor plan, color-coded, with booths numbers
Opening the map, here is the list of exhibitors, with the
same color codes as in the floor plan
Opening again, reveals the planning part, with the first two days
Opening one last time, and here are the two last days of CV
Oh, and for those of you interested, here is the downloadble pattern
